CADCA’s 19th Annual National Leadership Forum February 8-12, 2009 in Washington D.C.
(Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America)

Kristin Chittick, the community Coalition Director of CAMA and John Cutshall the Co-Author of the book “Good People Bad Drugs” were presenters at this year’s conference.  It was an honor to present our book on forming a coalition during the poster session. Chittick and Cutshall were among a elite group of community coalitions presenting this year. The theme for this year’s conference was STRONGER partnerships for Healthier Communities.

It is always a challenge to meet with our elected officials while we are in D.C..  However Ken Polky, the Executive Director of HRC, and Kristin Chittick had an opportunity to share quality time with each of our IL officials or staff this year. Kristin was pleased to see our CAMA Teen picture still prominently displayed in Congressman Tim Johnson Office.

CAMA Inc. and the CAMA Teens have many new projects including “Operation Medicine Cabinet” (Prescription Drug Disposal Program) planned for this summer, Keep looking for new information Here!

While methamphetamine use is high in the valley, one city is seeing lower meth related crime numbers, and is thanking The Coalition Against Methamphetamine Abuse (C.A.M.A) for helping.

C.A.M.A. is a public service organization that does a lot of work to educate and prevent the use of meth and other drugs. The organization’s vision is “to reduce the impact of substance abuse on Clark and Edgar counties, creating a permanent change and healthier communities.”

Thursday night, local police and legislators were on hand to recognize the organization’s efforts and to thank them for their work.

According to Paris Police Department Sergeant Richard Wilson, meth related crimes have dropped recently. The drop in crime numbers coincides with lobby and education work done by the organization.

At Thursday’s event, several guest speakers spoke highly of the organization. C.AM.A. Teens, a youth group within the C.A.M.A. organization, put on a moving performance for those in attendance.
